You don’t have to watch the whole thing, but US History/ Psychology teacher, Philip Benezra at Vallejo High School publishes book called, “Rose In Concrete” based off Tupac Shakur poem. The book takes stories written by the students and shows their grief, loss, new hope, friendship, and so much more. This book was written by the students, for everyone.
In this meeting, Mr. Benezra chose a handful of students with powerful stories to present to the board. He told me he wanted to remind the board and the community that students go through so much too. Students have lives and stories that have affected them. We, as students, are still people. People with thoughts and fears and dreams, not just a number for a “warm body count”, or just a detention slip with a name. We are roses in concrete.
yo this is important
